This week, Donald Trump made a decision that took an immense amount of courage and intelligence. He recognized what every rational person has known for a long time but been afraid to admit. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and anyone who disagrees with that is simply ignorant. Congress voted to move the American embassy to Jerusalem in the 1990s but we’ve been too afraid of Muslim violence to do it and each president has kicked the can down the road.
From Fox News:
President Trump on Wednesday formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, saying it’s time to “acknowledge the obvious” as he ordered the State Department to begin moving the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
“I have determined that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” the president said during a speech in the Diplomatic Reception Room of the White House.
The move fulfills a campaign promise made to religious conservatives. But it could also inflame tensions across the Middle East.
“This is nothing more or less than a recognition of reality,” Trump said. “It is also the right thing to do. It’s something that has to be done.”
Bibi Netanyahu has weighed in on the situation and his message needs to be seen by everyone.
Ben Shapiro wrote a great piece about why this is just common sense.
From The Daily Wire:
The president’s decision to verify what Congress has made law since 1995, and to recognize a reality that’s been true for several thousand years, shouldn’t be all that controversial. But it is, largely thanks to misinformation put out by enemies of Israel, who suggest that to say true things amounts to provocation of violence.
Here’s the reality: recognizing the unification of Jerusalem under Israeli authority isn’t what causes violence between Israel and its neighboring Muslim enemies. It’s the anti-Semitic religious fervor of Israel’s neighboring Muslim enemies. That’s been true since before there was a State of Israel, and before Israel controlled Jerusalem.
The Arabs in ‘Palestine’ have no interest in peace. They have no interest in working things out. They want the Jews to all be dead and Israel to be gone. There is no rationalizing with people like that.
Even Schumer gets it and is trying to take credit for Trump’s bravery.
From The Hill:
Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer advised President Trump to declare Jerusalem the “undivided” capital of Israel ahead of Trump’s expected announcement on the matter this week, the New York Democrat told The Weekly Standard on Tuesday.
The White House said Tuesday that Trump will announce that the U.S. will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, but will delay moving the embassy from Tel Aviv.
Why didn’t Schumer advise Obama to take the move and let Obama take the credit.
Because Schumer and Obama were too scared to do it. That’s why.
Props to President Trump on this one.
Some are saying that he is already the best friend to Israel since Truman.
That isn’t very farfetched.
This is a big deal.
